An introduction to the timeline display area, how to manually position events, and how to change event fonts etc.

Displaying the timeline and Event data is done by ‘calling’ selected events from the database.
The timeline application sets the timeline axis based on the date of the first and last of these 'called' Events.
As the timeline application has the database capacity for many hundreds of Events there are 2 main ways to 'call' the Events to be displayed.

Calling Events to be displayed
Show All  - This shows all Events. This is OK for small timelines but gets clumsy with larger timelines.
Search - This will allow you to call the results of a database search. The search can be simple, maybe just a keyword or complicated involving Key words, within time period and within defined Groups.

Event layout and positioning
Timeline Studio’s timeline software has a simple algorithm for positioning events.
All new Events are positioned at the bottom of the screen, from here they can be dragged to the ideal location.
Once an Event has been manually positioned it will retain this on screen location until it is manually repositioned again.

User tip
A general tip is to enter all or as many of your Events as you can into the database before you pay too much attention to the layout.
If you just require a single view timeline manually position all of your Events, upon saving the timeline your Events will be fixed.
If you are making a multi-View timeline create and save your Views, and then adjust the Events on the Home display area.

Event characteristics
How an Event is displayed on the timeline display will depend on the characteristics set by the Group it is a member of.
It is not necessary to place an Event in a Group if not required, if this is the case it will be governed by the default settings, these can be adjusts from Other tab / Defaults.
Groups are a useful way to link a number of Events together with a common colour, a common Font and icon.
Groups are also useful for searching and displaying.
