The 'Views' feature gives the option to sub divide your timeline into a number of saved 'Views'.
Views allow very large projects to be broken down into smaller sub-timelines whilst still keeping them in context with the whole project.
Views can be created either by the View Editing option or by copying the current timeline screen layout and saving as a View.
It is even possible to create a template where the Views have been create before any Event data is add, this is ideal when importing data into the timeline software.

A good structure technique for Multi-layered timelines is to use the 'Home' View as an 'Over View'.
The Home View comes a summary of the major Events and with a number of additional ‘Views’ showing lower level detail.

Quick summary of Views

Showing a View
All saved Views are listed in the Views drop down list, click the arrow to display the list.
Click on the View name you wish to display and that View will be displayed.
New timelines only contain a Home View.
The timeline software will always open a timeline on the Home View.

Manage Views - Views Tab
From here you can create a New View, Edit or Inspect a current View, Search the database, or re-order the way the drop down list is structured.
The most important button is the 'Update View' this is used to save any changes made to the View, i.e. layout changes.

Create a New View
From the Organise Views box select New
The Edit / Inspect View dialogue is now shown.
From here you can select the search criteria used to create each View.

Additional Views and the management of the Home View
The Home View is an unsaved open View which will update as any new Event is created.
As you develop your timeline you may want to create additional Views.
This will have 2 effects on the Home View:
1. You may not want to show certain Events in the Home view but they are still shown.
2. Events will not hold their on screen position.

After additional Views have been created the Home View will need to be treated in the same any as any other View, unwanted Events will need to be removed (Blowaway or re-define Home View) and onscreen positions will need to be saved.

When to Create Views
New Views can be created at any time, Events as shown on the screen can be saved as a View, or Views can be created in advance, even before any Event data is added.
The main tools for creating Views are the 'Search' box and the 'Organise Views' & ' Edit/Inspect View' buttons.
If you have a large amount of data to be imported into the timeline software, creating Groups and Views in advance will help the editing process, as Events will automatically populate the Views during the data import process.

To display a saved View
All saved Views are listed in the Views drop down list, click the arrow to display the list.
Click on the View name you wish to display and that View will be displayed.

Name field - This is the name of the View as shown in the Views drop down list.

Date / time range
- Check the Date / time range check box and select a time range using the 2 field box. All Events within this time range will now be in this View.

Keyword (in name) - Events with 'keyword' in the Event name will be shown in this View.

Keyword (in description) - Events with 'keyword' in the Event description will be shown in this View.

Search Tags - Search Tags work only on the Search Tag field within the Event Edit description field.
Search Tags are precise. They are case and space sensitive.
Search Tags are ideal for making precise and controlled Views.

Groups - Select which Groups are active in a View. Check the box next to each Group to make it active in the View.
If only the Groups fields are selected (all other fields are left blank) then this View will display all members of the selected Group or Groups.

Update From Display - This saves the current display to the selected View.
Use 'Update from Display' to update a current View if events have been re-positioned, Blownaway, or if the search function has created the display.

Blownaway events - This shows which Events have been 'Blowawa in the View.
Note: It is not possible to edit Blownaway Events from this box. All Blownaway Events are edited via main Views tab and Restore Events.

Edit Current View
The editing of a View is the same as creating a new View, just change the data in one or all of the fields and the View will reflex these changes.

Changing Event position within a View
Select the View to be adjusted, change the layout of events
From the Views tab select 'Update View' - the View is now updated to the current screen layout.

Using Blowaway in Views
The Blowaway is used to fine tune a View i.e. the main View or search tool have called a few Events not required.
Instead of re-defining the View, just Blowaway the Events from the current View.
Select 'Blowaway' remove unwanted Events - use 'Update View' to save changes to the View.

To add Blownaway events back into a View use 'Restore Events'.
Once the Events are shown use the 'Update View' to save changes to the View.
